Manning and Decker smooth out rough patches

by Ryan Ebert

After practice Wednesday Broncos QB Peyton Manning and WR Eric Decker stayed around and went over a few things after experiencing some lapses in communication during practice.

"I think it was evident, particularly offensively, that we were coming off a 4½-day hiatus," Broncos coach John Fox said. "But that's what happens. We gave them a little break, and I think they enjoyed their Memorial Day weekend. We've just got to get back to business."

Teams struggling in OTAs should only be taken lightly since there have only been a number of practices that have gone and much more to go. Receivers are still getting familiar with their quarterbacks more exclusively. Broncos tight end Joel Dreessen is thankful for OTAs and the workouts he gets with Manning.

"I'm getting more and more comfortable," Dreessen said Wednesday. "It's all very new to me, but that's what OTAs are for. If we had a lockout this year, then I'd be in a lot of trouble. But that's what this stuff is for, and it's helped me a lot."

Seeing Manning and Decker work together brings comfort to Bronco fans knowing those two will be on the same page. Before Tebow became the starter along with his run-heavy offense Decker caught 20 passes for 270 yards with 4 touchdowns in the first month of 2011. Being on the same page is sure to help Decker keep his starting job over teammates Andre Caldwell and Demaryius Thomas.
